Parkinson’s Renaissance Gala Saturday, October 13, 2012
The Parkinson’s Renaissance Gala celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012! The event, honoring UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, was held at the Westin Gaslamp. The evening featured entertainment, silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner, and fun for all.

2012 Spring Symposium
The Living Well with Parkinson’s 2012 symposium, held on May 17th at the Scottish Rite Conference Center, hosted over 200 people with Parkinson’s, their family members and community partners, and interested community members. Participants heard presentations on everything from new medications to adult pluripotent stem cell research to complementary therapies. In the afternoon, participants were able to “sample” some exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s, or learn about dementia or caregiving challenges.

2011 Parkinson’s Renaissance Gala
The 9th annual Parkinson’s Renaissance Gala (formerly the “Spirit of Life Gala”) was held Sunday, October 9, 2011 in the Paradise Ballroom at beautiful Paradise Point Resort in Mission Bay. This formal event was emceed by renowned auctioneer Bill Menish. Proceeds from the event help us improve the quality of life for more than 60,000 individuals and family members personally affected by Parkinson’s.
The Spirit of Life Award was presented to Michael Thorsnes, a nationally renowned trial lawyer. Since his diagnosis with Parkinson’s, Michael has exemplified the Spirit of Life by focusing his intellect and energies towards his passions; he has become an award-winning poet, a worldwide traveler and lecturer, an able horseman and an accomplished photographer who specializes in informal portraiture of the human condition as found in 28 countries.
The Spirit of Life Hero Awards were presented to Rick Brydges and Ed Danenhauer. These two men have led exemplary lives in their professional careers and have served as inspiration to their families, colleagues, and others living with Parkinson’s.
2012 Fighting Parkinson’s Step by Step 5K Walk & Fun Run
This event was held on April 21, 2012 at Liberty Station in beautiful Point Loma, and raised more than $280,000! More than 2,200 runners and walkers enjoyed a fun-filled “dog-friendly” festival which included live music, snacks, and face painting for the kids. The Paws for Parkinson’s Pet Festival was a huge hit with all attendees. Save the Date: April 20, 2013 for next year’s walk.
