National Organizations


The various national Parkinson’s organizations that support research include:

APDA – The American Parkinson’s Disease Association has supported Parkinson’s research for over 50 years.  Their program is overseen by a Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee that is comprised by leading scientists from around the Country.

MJF – The Michael J Fox Foundation has donated millions of dollars for Parkinson’s research.

PDF – The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, located in New York, also funds promising research across the country.  It has an internal review structure similar to APDA’s.

PAN – The Parkinson’s Action Network works at both the national and state levels to promote funding for Parkinson’s programs and research by working with government entities and supporting legislation.

Federal Government:

NIH – The National Institutes of Health is the primary, and by far, the biggest funding source for Parkinson’s research.

VA – As a result of an increase in Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions found in veterans returning from combat environments, the Veterans Administration supports research into neurotoxins and their effects on the troops.
