The Physicians and Pharmacists Symposium was held on October 27, 2012 at the UCSD Medical Education & Telemedicine Conference Hall. PURPOSE: The aim of our bi-annual Physician and Pharmacist Symposium is to provide a greater understanding of PD treatment risks and benefits, and to present new developments in research that will allow clinicians, pharmacists, and allied healthcare personnel to better educate and care for patients with PD.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This educational program is designed for primary care and family physicians, and pharmacists to increase their knowledge of Parkinson’s disease. Other healthcare professionals who may benefit from this activity are nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this event, participants should be able to:
• Critically examine the clinical motor and non-motor features of Parkinson’s disease
• Organize a differential diagnosis and/or know when to refer patients to a specialist
• Discuss current and novel therapeutic approaches for management of Parkinson’s disease
