Become a PASD Mentor

Return to the Mentor Home page.

The Parkinson’s Association’s Mentor program creates powerful relationships between people with Parkinson’s, or their care partners, and mentors who have “been there / done that.” Many of your mentees will be facing the most challenging travail they have ever seen – either living with Parkinson’s, or caring for someone with Parkinson’s.

Although each person’s reasons for becoming a mentor will be different, we have defined the characteristics we feel are necessary for being a great mentor:

  • A desire to help people who have experienced similar struggles.
  • Gratitude to be able to help others.
  • An interest in continuing to learn and self-develop.
  • Non-reactionary – a calm demeanor and a voice of reason.
  • Good time management skills, does not overextend.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent listening skills, positive communication skills.
  • Assess and understand limitations and boundaries.
  • Ability to share relevant personal experience.
  • Ability to assist mentee with development of problem solving, decision making and coping skills.

If you feel that you line up with these traits, please complete the short form below and we will be in touch with you shortly.

Your personal information – email, phone, and address are for admin use only and will not be released to the public. All initial phone communications will be initiated by you calling your mentees.
