2026  Trek to Bali

Donate on Behalf of a Trekker to Support the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego

All donations are tax deductible and will support the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego.

What began in 2011 as a fundraising climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in support of stem cell research has grown into a powerful tradition. Year after year, it continues to attract people living with Parkinson’s who are defiant, determined, and willing to challenge themselves through long and demanding treks around the world.

Bali will be our 7th international trek. We will hike up to 10 miles a day for 10 consecutive days in the beautiful world of Bali. Why? Because we can and because we will not let Parkinson’s define us.

This trek is not only a challenge to the body and the soul; it also serves a vital purpose. Together, we are raising funds for the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, which provides essential programs and services for all people in our county affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Join us. Support our trekkers. Share our mission. Donate if you can, cheer us on if you can’t, and help us prove that strength, resilience, and community are more powerful than Parkinson’s. Every step we take is a step toward hope and we invite you to take that step with us.

Courage, determination and commitment are three big words to describe what I see everyday in clinic and more importantly on mountain tops around the world. Courage to say “I can,” determination to believe “they can,” and commitment to “make it happen” by training for months before a climb. We climb to raise money for great Parkinson’s causes but more importantly we climb because we CAN!.

I had a slight tremor in my left hand in 2010. Certain that it was nothing, and then it was something. I was fully diagnosed in 2013. It was Parkinson’s but the progression was thankfully, slow. I was only able to take one medication. As my tremor progressed to my right hand and jaw, I decided to have two Deep Brain Stimulation surgeries just a few months apart.

This will be my FIFTH trek and I love that I am trekking with people with Parkinson’s who tirelessly train for these hikes. I have done Machu Picch, Camino de Santiago, Dolomites and the Kumano Kodo. Now we will be hiking in Bali for 9 days in June. These are not easy hikes, up to 8 hours a day.

How did I become involved? Many of you know my father had PD back in the 1970’s when there was very little knowledge about the disease. It was heartbreaking for me and there is so much more knowledge, medications, research and solutions. Each participant on our hike pays their own way and 100% of the funds raised goes directly to the San Diego Parkinson’s Association.

Your support for this disease is soooo appreciated.  Thank you.

Steve and Jackie Gloor

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in 2017. Our research found that the best and really only way to slow the progression of PD is through exercise, especially high intensity exercise. So I took up Rock Steady boxing, strength training, hiking, and, most recently, indoor rock climbing. During all these endeavors Jackie is acting as my support system as well as my drill sergeant.

Parkinson’s specialist Sherrie Gould, NP organizes strenuous, multiple-day hiking trips to worldwide destinations. The hikes are organized as fundraisers for the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego. The association provides vital support and resources for the San Diego PD community.

This year we are excited to hike “off the beaten track” in tropical Bali! Participating in these trips challenges people impacted by PD to push their limits, proving a good quality of life is possible despite having PD.

Why Bali? Because I can. Parkinson’s does not define me. I’m still Grandma, Mom, & Marian, & I will not let Parkinson’s limit what I am able to do. A bit slower, maybe, some days my walking gait is off, perhaps, but I am constantly forging ahead. For me, life is an adventure that is to be met with gusto & passion.  Therefore, Bali here I come with my daughters for a once in a lifetime experience. Trek on!

The time is now!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate alongside Sherrie Gould in the latest Power over Parkinson’s fundraising hike to Bali.

For many years, I have donated to climber fundraising efforts, but I never had the nerve to make the trek myself. 15 years into my journey with PD…the time is now.

Please support me in my efforts to raise $1000 for the Parkinson’s Association which will be used to provide services to the San Diego Parkinson’s community.

A message from Sherrie Gould.

With Kilimanjaro, Everest, Machu Picchu and Camino de Santiago behind us, the mountains are once again calling our names! They are waiting there patiently for our arrival, this time to the Dolomite mountains in Northern Italy for a 8 night 9 day strenuous hike…BECAUSE WE CAN and because we will not allow Parkinson’s disease to define who we are and limit the lofty goals we choose to achieve!

We believe in fundraising for worthy causes, sometimes research, sometimes services and this time our team’s fundraising energy will go to the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego with so much appreciation for all they do for our local Parkinson’s community!

Watch for info on the next trek, sometime in 2024!
