Position: Executive Director, Parkinson’s Association of San Diego (PASD)

Location: San Diego County, CA – Hybrid

Position Type: Full-Time, Reports to Board of Directors

The mission of PASD is to enable those in San Diego County impacted by Parkinson’s disease to live their best lives through support, resources, and education.

PASD empowers individuals and families impacted by Parkinson’s disease through a wide range of evidence-based, community-driven programs that improve quality of life, health outcomes, and access to support across San Diego County.

Overview:

The Executive Director of Parkinson’s Association of San Diego (PASD) provides strategic leadership, financial accountability, operational oversight, and visionary direction.

This role oversees programs, staff, fundraising, marketing, finances, and community partnerships. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, community stakeholders, and clinicians to develop, implement, and assess initiatives that serve the Parkinson’s community throughout San Diego County.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Continuous evaluation and execution of PASD’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Launch and refine new programs while continuously improving existing services.
  • Set and track ambitious, realistic annual growth goals.
  • Inspire and align board members, staff, and volunteers toward shared objectives.
  • Take initiative, test strategies, and foster a culture of accountability and innovation.

2. Communications and Relationship Building

  • Serve as the public face of PASD with medical partners, donors, the Parkinson’s community, and the public.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally across all audiences.
  • Navigate conflict resolution with respect, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Delegate tasks clearly and appropriately while maintaining overall accountability.

3. Program Development and Delivery (in partnership with Director of Operations)

  • Design and manage medically evidenced-based programs responsive to community needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare systems, providers, and institutions to expand program reach.
  • Establish marketing and outreach plans to promote PASD services and events.
  • Develop and oversee program timelines, budgets, and performance metrics.

4. Financial Management

  • Develop and manage PASD’s operating budget with the Board President and Treasurer.
  • Monitor income and expenses, ensure financial accountability and sustainability, and manage cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with PASD bylaws, financial policies, audits, and nonprofit regulations.
  • Support accounting and administrative processes.
  • Prepare and report monthly financial reports to the board.

5. Fundraising and Development

  • Lead and support diversified fundraising strategies, including individual giving, grants, endowments, sponsorships, and events.
  • Identify potential for collaboration with significant donors and foundations. Build and sustain relationships and work to developcommitments for short and long term financial support and sustainability.
  • Identify new and innovative fundraising opportunities. Develop stewardship for programs and processes for donors. Ensure financial sustainability with continued growth on a year to year basis.
  • Maintain and utilize donor and sponsor databases.

6. Operations and Human Resources

  • Hire, manage, and develop a high-performing team in a budget neutral environment.
  • Develop and maintain clear job descriptions, performance standards, and review cycles.
  • Build a respectful, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture.
  • Review and update staff handbooks and policies.

7. Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Represent PASD at community events, public forums, and medical gatherings.
  • Build alliances with nonprofit, corporate, and government partners.
  • Increase awareness and visibility of PASD through strategic outreach.

8. Board Relations and Governance

  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors on strategy, governance, and fundraising.
  • Keep the Board informed of progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Facilitate effective board meetings, retreats, and planning sessions.

9. Professional Development

  • Stay informed on trends in nonprofit leadership, advancement in Parkinson’s research and therapies, and community needs.
  • Encourage growth opportunities for staff and board members.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit administration or equivalent.
  • Preferred to hold a degree in a related field.
  • Ability to work within, and commitment to the organizational chain of command.
  • Proven organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats.
  • Familiarity with complexity of Parkinson’s preferred. Must complete required education and training modules as necessary.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Passion for Mission: Demonstrated empathy for those impacted by Parkinson’s, ideally with direct personal or professional experience.
  • Proven Leadership: Experience in nonprofit management, preferably at the executive level.
  • Fundraising Expertise: Demonstrated success in fundraising, identification and development of donor relationships, and partnership building.
  • Program Experience: Background in program development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong budgeting and financial oversight skills. Ability to develop and implement plans for financial sustainability.
  • Collaborative Communicator: Skilled in building relationships and fostering community and organizational trust.Strategic Thinker:

Compensation Range: $85K – $139K per year
