Buen Camino! That was the phrase I sang in 2018 when I first trekked with the irrepressible Sherri and some of the most amazing Parkinson’s patients and caregivers I have ever met. I was introduced to this group through my high school friend’s stepfather, Jim. He has Parkinson’s and was unable to go on the first trek Sherri ever organized, so I decided to walk in his honor. I learned so much about myself on the Camino and I did so by watching our Parkinson’s patients live life to its fullest. Every morning, I watched them get up, not complain, and take each step with a smile. How could I ever complain about a blister again?! When we arrived at our destination, Santiago, we cried and laughed in celebration of our achievement. We arrived as something more than a team. We had become a family.
I now use these memories and passions to help further the support of this amazing population of Parkinson’s patients. I am continuing my support to these individuals by fundraising for my Dolomite trek! The Parkinson’s Association of San Diego does an amazing job helping local Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers thrive. Please come join me as I walk for my new family and help raise funds for an amazing organization that helps thousands of families in San Diego. Yes. We. Can!
