In this opening segment Marty Acevedo, PASD Board President and a person with Parkinson’s, talks about the journey with Parkinson’s and some of the things you and your care partner(s) can do to ease that journey.

In our second segment movement disorders neurologist Dr. Brent Wright provides a short overview on “What is Parkinson’s?” Dr. Wright looks at motor and non-motor symptoms, some of the common medications used for treatment, and some advanced therapy options.

In this segment Marty Acevedo returns with two topics important to everyone with Parkinson’s. The first is our Medical Safety Program designed to help you keep everything in order in the event of a hospital visit. Following that Marty, who is a registered dietitian, looks at nutrition and Parkinson’s.

Exercise – the foundational therapy for everyone impacted by Parkinson’s. In this segment physical therapist Meagan George, DPT and a co-founder of NeuroLab360, talks about all things exercise – for your body, mind, and more.

Speech and Swallowing – If you are on a journey with Parkinson’s it is never too early to start to look at speaking and swallowing. Emory D’Andrea, SLP, gives a comprehensive overview of why it is so important to train the way you speak and swallow.

In our segment on care partners, Irene Miller, who has long been a care partner for her husband with Parkinson’s, looks at many of the things you can do as a care partner to support not only your person with Parkinson’s but also support yourself.

Knowing that the key to living well with Parkinson’s is education, in our final segment of the day PASD’s Director of Operations, Jeff Seckendorf, provides a comprehensive overview of the services and educational programs offered by the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego.

Following the presentations, our panelists return for about 30 minutes of questions and answers.
