My name is Tom Reid. I am a native San Diegan, a graduate of Clairemont High School and SDSU where I majored in Psychology. I have worked and lived in San Diego my whole life. I am a recently retired Mortgage Banker. Before I retired, I owned a mortgage company, and I worked in residential real estate finance. My greatest feeling of accomplishment came from helping people buy their first homes. We also worked with veterans, helping them get the most from their benefits. I come from a military family (go Navy!), so helping veterans meant a lot to me.

My hobbies are flying, body surfing, playing beach volleyball, traveling, (especially to the wine country!), scuba diving, and hiking. I have been married to my true love, Carol, for almost 40 years, and we currently live in Bay Park.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2022 and have been fighting it with all my might since then. The PASD has been a huge part of that, helping me meet others who helped me or who have PD themselves and provide mentorship. I can’t say enough about the great care I have received from the fine staff at Scripps Neurology. They literally saved my life.

In keeping with the spirit of, “Don’t Let It Slow You Down”, I am still a licensed pilot, flying under the FAA’s Basic Med program. I have a commercial license with an instrument rating with high performance, complex, and tail dragger endorsements. My favorite airplane for going places is the Cirrus SR22 and the most fun I’ve ever had flying was getting my sea plane rating in a 1944 J3 Cub on floats. I also fly a bright yellow and blue 1941 Stearman biplane out of Montgomery field, and on many weekdays, you can see my instructor and me doing touch and goes in the pattern.

I am looking forward to helping others with PD, and hopefully my skillset will fit in with the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego.
